Ah, Pastors and Prophets, two of probably the most known of the Fivefold Ministry and I’d say they are so well known because of their clashes! Come on we all heard it before! A couple of weird false prophets come to a local pastors church spouting deception and hurting the congregation so the pastor builds a caution against prophets. Or the little starting prophet running from church to church because none of the pastors believe in the gifts and reject the poor baby prophet! But, what if I told you prophets and pastors that you have something in common to agree with? 

What is it you may ask? Simply, the training is intense and hard. That’s what connects the prophet and pastor, despite their differences and clashing ideologies, both face intense shaping to become what they are. I’ve interacted with quite a few prophets and pastors and something that always leaves me laughing is there are usually two types of prophets and pastors. The first type is the pastor who wishes he was a prophet and the prophet who wishes he was a pastor, and the second type is the pastor who is utterly terrified at the thought of becoming a prophet, and the prophet who thinks you are speaking a curse over them if you say they are becoming pastoral.

Come on now! We all see the prophets as being extreme like this, but wouldn’t it surprise you to see pastors are just as dramatic! See, I went through the pastoral before, and am going through the prophetic so trust me when I say both are intense, just for different reasons. So, with this in mind, I recognize that both of those types I mentioned before are correct. As a pastor who doesn’t get the option to “die already” but instead change and adapt…that cross starts looking mighty tempting! Or, when you are the prophet constantly in the background dying at every turn, to be the guy who can just stand up and push through starts looking rather welcoming. But, at the same time for the prophets and pastors who know what the other goes through, the thought of going through it yourself is not something you think on happily!
